About the Northeast Ohio Talent Dividend
The Northeast Ohio Talent Dividend provides the perfect opportunity to reap significant economic benefit for Northeast Ohio by a targeted effort to increase college completion in the region. With Ohio’s rank below national averages for every age category for every level of college degrees, and the projection that almost 60% of new jobs in the state will require some postsecondary education by 2018, Northeast Ohio must come together to increase the number of people with college degrees. Our goal is to make Northeast Ohio the best talent pool in the nation. The Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education is pleased to lead this achievable and worthwhile effort.
The Northeast Ohio Talent Dividend is guided by a Steering Committee of business, education, civic, nonprofit, and philanthropic stakeholders and an Action Plan with overarching goals to
- improve college readiness,
- increase retention to degree completion, and
- increase degree attainment among adults with some college and no degree.
At the annual Northeast Ohio Talent Dividend Summit on December 16, 2011, at Corporate College East, NOCHE announced that the number of degree holders increased by 41,643, a 1.4 percentage point increase between 2009 and 2010, which accounted for more than half of the increase in the number of degrees for all of Ohio. The region is on its way to achieving its goal of one million college degree holders by 2014.
According to CEOs for Cities’ calculations, a one percentage point increase in a region’s college degree attainment yields a $763 increase in per capita income. Northeast Ohio’s 1.4 percentage point increase led to a $1,162 increase in per capita income, equal to more than $4 billion in new personal income in one year.
