Established in 1848, Chancellor University (formerly Myers University) was one of the first business colleges in the United States, as well as Cleveland’s first post-secondary educational institution. The university’s mission is to serve first-generation college students, with scholarship assistance for inner-city Cleveland students, and to provide working adults with the chance to earn a regionally-accredited degree. |
Access and Aspiration
Breaking Down Barriers to Higher Education
College Caravan
The cornerstone of NOCHE’s Access and Aspiration programming is its “College Caravan” program, for which admissions officers from regional colleges and universities travel together to multiple high schools throughout the region. The goals of the College Caravan—conducted over a 2-week period, in mid-April and in mid-October—are to expose underserved high school students to regional higher education opportunities, raise college aspirations, and lower college access barriers.
The Spring 2009 College Caravan reached 2,047 high school students from 31 high schools in Cleveland, Canton, Akron, Warrensville Heights, and Youngstown, representing a 20% increase in student participation over the Spring 2008 College Caravan.

Admissions Committee
NOCHE convenes the admissions officers of its member institutions for Admissions Committee meetings on a quarterly basis. The meetings' objectives are to plan for the College Caravan, exchange ideas and information and hear guest speakers on relevant topics.
